Lumella & Lumelus 2024-03-08

• The idea of creating Lumel’s own Bacchus figures emerged several years ago. Their unveiling, however, was tied to a special occasion – the 70th anniversary of Lumel (1953–2023) and the 700th anniversary of Zielona Góra’s city rights. In 2023, two new figures joined the Bacchus family: Lumelus and Lumella, representing Lumel Alucast Sp. z o.o. and Lumel S.A., respectively.

• Discussions about how the Bacchus figures should represent Lumel and Lumel Alucast were long and intense. After all, how could one combine the god of wine, automation, and foundry craftsmanship? Ultimately, in the workshop of sculptor Artur Wochniak – the creator of the figures – it was decided that two sculptures would best symbolize Lumel’s two companies.
   

• Lumelus is a handsome Bacchus proudly representing Lumel Alucast. His statue was unveiled on November 3, 2023, during a ceremony attended by distinguished guests, including Nagma Mohamed Mallick, the Ambassador of India to Poland, Janusz Kubicki, the then-Mayor of Zielona Góra, Narendra Goliya, the owner of Lumel and Lumel Alucast, and Dinesh Musalekar, the President and CEO of both companies and the Rishabh Group. The event coincided with the official celebration of Lumel’s 70th anniversary.

• On March 8, 2024, during International Women’s Day, Lumella was unveiled as the embodiment of Lumel S.A. Her figure is distinguished by elegance, wisdom, and symbolism – she holds a vintage clamp meter, a historic device once produced by the Lubuskie Electrical Apparatus Plant (LUMEL).

• The project and execution of Lumel’s Bacchus figures were led by sculptor Artur Wochniak. The creation process involved several stages – from initial sketches and clay modeling to the production of silicone molds and bronze casting. Finally, the sculptures were coated with green patina, giving them their distinctive appearance.       

• Both statues are located on the Wine Hill (Winne Wzgórze) near the Palm House, accessible from the Focus Park side. Lumelus and Lumella, as the first pair of Bacchus figures in Zielona Góra, symbolize the lasting and harmonious collaboration between the two companies – Lumel and Lumel Alucast. They also represent their shared history, as the two entities were legally united as LUMEL until 2016. Today, their headquarters are situated side by side on Słubicka Street – Lumel S.A. at number 1 and Lumel Alucast at number 4.

• Lumel’s Bacchus figures carry a message of tradition, innovation, and unity. Their presence in Zielona Góra stands as proof that rich history can blend seamlessly with modernity, and cultural sensitivity can coexist with business endeavors.
